The former coach of Anthony Martial, Remy Garde has advised the current coach Jose Mourinho on how to help the Manchester United forward as he struggles at Old Trafford.
Garde asked that Mourinho continue to challenge the French star instead of pushing him aside when he fails to hit the mark.
The 21-year old has had a poor year at Man United despite his explosive start at the club. The manager has publicly castigated him a few times for failing to match his expectations.
With Juan Mata set to return from injury, the player could sit it out as the club hopes to finish on a high. Martial has started the last three games, scoring in the game against Burnley to make it eight this season.
Garde has come out to say he did not expect anything different. He coached the player at Lyon and he seems to know him very well. Garde advised that Mourinho push the player to his limits as he needs that challenge to be productive.
“I see more someone who needs to be challenged. He has always been like that. He is very gifted but he needs to be pushed. I see that his current manager is sometimes pushing him to deliver more. I am not surprised about that,” Garde said.
The former manager of the player added that Martial is coping well considering that the style of play he was used to in France was quite different from the one in England. He said Martial is “very quiet and calm” and that he needs experienced hands to steer him to his best.
The player recently has issues with his former partner and his poor form has resulted to being dropped from the French national team. He earlier lost the number nine shirt to Zlatan Ibrahimovic who joined this term and the younger and less experienced Marcus Rashford is the one promoted after the Swede got injured.
